İzmir b. 2000
Selin Öktem (b. 2000 in İzmir, Türkiye) lives and works in London.
Öktem is a multidisciplinary artist working primarily across painting, drypoint and sculpture. Her practice explores memory, displacement, mythology and the relationship between people and the places they inhabit. Moving between familiar subjects and imagined figures, animals and landscapes, her work draws on personal and collective histories, often using earth, dust, rust and found materials as carriers of memory.
She completed her undergraduate and master's studies at the Architectural Association in London, specialising in sculpture and the anthropology of memory. Her work has been presented at La Biennale di Venezia (2026), Contemporary Istanbul Bloom (2026), Summart Gallery (2026) and the XXIII Chilean Architecture and Urbanism Biennial (2025). She has also participated in the Gorvell artist residency in Labruge, Portugal (2024), developing site-specific paintings using pigments derived from local earth and demolition materials.
